Where and when?
I was born somewhere in the Western world on a Thursday in 1983.
I am an Orthodox Christian, a writer, a wife, and a mother of three.
What and why?
"Beauty will save the world." Dostoyevsky.
Where are Levitan's Fields?
Isaac Levitan was a 19th-century Russian landscape painter. The header image in this blog is of his painting 'Vladimirka',(1892) a road that was used since the medieval times and which took on penal associations in the 19th century. The road is enlivened only by a church in the distance under the heavy grey sky.
Welcome to my blog!
My name is Varia.
I currently live in the Snowy Mountains, Australia with my husband and three young daughters (plus a dog, cat, and a growing collection of chickens).
For a crust, I write and edit. In a former life I worked at the helm of an art magazine.
Today, I work at a pottery run by my husband.
I grew up in 1990s suburban Australia. My parents were and are, fervent Christians. They instilled a love for Christ in me, that was there like a blueprint in my genes. I always knew that I was made in the Image and Likeness, however, in reality, I am perpetually caught in the Prodigal Son narrative. Too caught up in the modern world, wanting to tearfully return to my Father. (Not to get too Fraudian, but my father is a priest).
Things I enjoy, but not limited to: sewing (and Japanese embroidery), reading, photography, gardening, baking, walking, interior architecture and design, and poetry. I have a bit of an obsession with tiles; stemming both from interior design dreams and working in the pottery.
